kitchen cart

a versatile kitchen cart combining industrial metal construction iwth a handcrafted butcher block top, designed for everyday functionality and style in industrial kitchens. this was my final project for a junior-year metalshop class, where we had a $120 material budget and approxmiately 24 hours of in-class build time over 19 days.
design process
here's a breakdown of what i did:
- created detailed plans using Rhino for precise measurements and visual layout
- built frame using 3/4” square metal tubing, carefully welded for strength and stability
- cut metal shelves from sheet metal using a cnc laser cutter based on custom rhino designs, then welded into place
- crafted the butcher block top from carefully selected hardwood strips—glued, planed, sanded, and finished with beeswax oil
- applied a clear-coat metal protectant to preserve the steel finish
- installed caster wheels for mobility
- added a handle for easy transport, hooks for practical storage
- securely mounted the butcher block top to complete the piece
