Appreciation for my parents
February 28, 2026
On top of the obvious things I'm thankful for my parents for, ever since leaving for college, I've become more and more appreciative of them. It's the little things they do for me, even from home, that remind me of how lucky I am to have them. Like when they send me photos of their daily activities, pickup my 10 minute calls when I'm lonely just walking to class and want to chat, my dad leaving me a nice message every single day on his MapMyRun app when he logs their daily 3.96 mile walk because I'm his only MapMyRun friend, send me articles on interesting neuroscience topics they know nothing about but want me to learn, and so much more. A perk of going to school so close to home is always knowing they're there if I need. Or just want. I grew up with my parents always at all my sports games, cheering me on or sometimes my dad even coached. I'm blessed to say they've come to every set of home games for my club softball team. Every single one. I joke about this because when I made a speech after being awarded athlete of the year in high school, I was so nervous that I thanked every single person in my life besides them, forgetting to mention that they were at every single high school sports game I think I ever played. So I'll forever feel bad about that...but I've expressed my gratitude for their support in every other possible way since then. Anyways, my point was that after every softball game, we get dinner or lunch, and just hang out, and then they'll take me to the grocery store if I need to get food for the week, drop me off, and then be on their way back home. This is a photo from after a long tripleheader when we got thai for dinner. This picture just reminds me of how lucky I am to have parents like mine.
