sports ball lamp

acrylic basketball and softball lamp lit

functional lamp design incorporating my love for basketball and softball, created with a combination of acrylic, wood, circuitry, and led lights for a personable and unique lighting experience.

materials

  • acrylic
  • led ring light
  • laser cut wooden base components
  • metal frame
  • circuitry

design process

the design merges sports with functional lighting, using acrylic material to create interesting light patterns and shadows while maintaining the recognizable sports theme.

this was my final project for my freshman year, intro to technical arts course, where I learned the basics of woodworking, circuitry, and metal fabrication. the final project prompt was to design and create a lamp, using all three shops components.

in addition to the hands-on physical fabrication, I also learned the basics of circuitry and computer-automated design (CAD), using Rhinocerous to create the 3D models of the lamp before creation.
